June, 2nd, 2017 – Italy celebrates the 71st anniversary of the Italian Republic. An even more inclusive edition, inspired by our sense of belonging and national pride. About 4,000 servicepersons and civilians will take part in the parade along the Fori Imperiali (Rome), as well as 159 flags and standards, 14 bands, 51 horses, 22 canine units and 70 vehicles. Maestro Andrea Bocelli will sing the National Anthem.
This year too 400 mayors, wearing the tricolour sash, will take part in the parade. Among them, in the front raw, the mayors of the Italian municipalities struck by the earthquake and extreme weather conditions in Central Italy.
After the flag hoisting ceremony and laying of the wreath at the Tomb to the Unknown Soldier, at 9:15h, the President of the Republic will inspect the troops along Viale delle Terme di Caracalla.
At the same time, a 16,000square metres tricolour will be unfolded over the Colosseum walls.
At the end of the parade Maestro Andrea Bocelli, the Children’s Choir of Santa Cecilia National Academy and the Defence Joint Band will sing and play the National Anthem. The fly-past of Frecce Tricolori, the national aerobatic display team, will close the ceremony.
To celebrate the Day dedicated to all the Italian citizens, on 2 June the Tricolor will decorate the buildings of the Ministry of Defence and relevant State-owned companies (Eni, Enel, Terna, Fincantieri, Ferrovie dello Stato), Leonardo\Finmeccanica), as well as all public buildings. Furthermore, at 11:30 and 12:30 a.m. military bands will hold concerts at central train stations in Florence (Santa Maria Novella), Palermo, Bari, Rome (Termini) Trieste and (P. Susa), and, starting from 12:30, at Milan Stazione Centrale.
In the afternoon, from 15:00 19:00 p.m., the Italian Army, Navy, Carabinieri, Border Police and Prison Police Bands will hold concerts at Palazzo del Quirinale.
