Discovering Valtellina and its flavors
By joining our tour You will discover the beautiful Alpine valley of Valtellina, one of the most picturesque areas of northern Italy. Located in Lombardy, in the far north close to the border with Switzerland, Valtellina stretches from Morbegno in the west, then heads east to the main town of Sondrio and carries on to Tirano, all along the Adda River.
Valtellina is one of the best examples of Italian gastronomic treasures. You will visit one of Italy’s most dramatic wine regions, and one of the least explored. Red wines together with dishes such as Polenta Taragna, Pizzoccheri and Sciatt are only some examples of what makes this valley a land of food and wine excellence.
What makes Valtellina so special is its ties with the past: the vineyards that cling to hillsides look much the same as they did hundreds of years ago; but Valtellina is not famous just for its wines but also for its typical dishes that come from the ancient gastronomic tradition of past generations.
Take a ride on the Bernina Express, one of Switzerland’s most scenic railways, climbing more than 1,800 meters, making it the steepest railway journey in the world. Depart from the picturesque Mediterranean town of Tirano, Italy and climb all the way to St. Moritz. On this exciting rail journey You will experience the scenery of the Alps. UNESCO named the Bernina Express route a world heritage site. You will see monumental glaciers, cross steep gorges, and pass through tunnels under some of the area’s most massive mountains.
