Gourmet Tour in Eastern Sicily

By joining us on this exclusive gourmet tour You will be able to discover the gems of Sicily, the largest island of Italy. Quintessentially Mediterranean, and a crossroads of trade and commerce since ancient times, Sicily is a mix of many civilizations. No wonder this captivating land has such fine food. Sicilian cuisine shows traces of all the cultures which established themselves on the island over the last two millennia. A culinary tradition that draws on dishes from the ancient Greeks, Arabs and Normans, and from as far afield as Spain, Greece, North Africa and the Middle East.

This particular gourmet tour in Sicily concentrates on the eastern part of the island and includes a variety of experiences. Along the journey, You will learn how to prepare traditional Sicilian dishes, sample vintages at local canteens and vineyards, relax in the nature and enjoy the Spa in idyllic accommodations—and even have the opportunity to climb Mount Etna! The bleak lava wilderness around the summit of Etna is one of the most memorable landscapes Italy has to offer.

Tour Location

During this tour the main theme is wine, we will propose a thematic itinerary through the wine-making process on the slopes of the highest active volcano in Europe, a guided tasting of wine produced on Etna mountain in a well-known wine producer, a whole day between taste and nature, ancient craters and new lava flows, lunar landscapes and luxuriant woods, breath-taking panoramas and volcanic caves to be safely explored together with our guide, who will fascinate you by telling the mysterious volcanic phenomena.

This cooking experience starts at the ancient Ortigia market. Participants and host browse the market stalls brimming with seasonal fruit and vegetables and meet fish vendors displaying their daily catch. Specialty food shops showcase local cheese like Ragusano (an Italian PDO cheese made with whole milk from modicana breed cows in the provinces of Ragusa andSiracusa), sun-dried tomatoes and capers from Pantelleria. Select the finest ingredients at the market and learn the secrets of Sicilian cooking traditions. There is plenty for tourists to take in at the Ortigia market in Syracuse, Sicily: the distinctly southern Italian hum of the crowd; spices and vegetables so diverse they could color a rainbow and the calm blue sea in the distance. But just wandering around this site, where Archimedes is said to have once helped the Greeks fight the Romans. The menu varies according to seasonal products: here is an example: Sicilian eggplant meatballs, spaghetti with zucchini and mint, tuna with caramelized onions (an old Sicilian recipe), and spinach. After the cooking class enjoy the lunch.

Discover the famous area of the Val di Noto, a stunning UNESCO world heritage site comprised of eight towns, renowned for sensational late Baroque architecture and a deep-rooted food culture. Just outside the hilltop town is a lush countryside distinguished for its fertile land, superb local cuisine and spectacular wines. In the surroundings are more tasty magnets, such as the chocolate produced in the town of Modica, local Ragusano cheese and olive oil produced in the Hyblaean mountains. Stop in a old cellar for visit and tasting of the best Sicilian wines.

Perched on top of a hill above plunging valleys covered in lush vegetation of carob trees and prickly pears, Ragusa appears to have been carved out of the chalky, white limestone on which it sits. Tasting the typical  granita that is particularly famous and well known. It is a semi-frozen dessert of sugar, water, and flavorings originally from the island.
