Top class Wine Tour: Tuscany – Veneto – Valpolicella

Wine Tour across Toscana and Veneto regions in Italy is one of the best ways to discover the true essence of the country.

Travel along the scenic wine roads of Chianti Classico, quintessential Tuscany, following the enchanting Chiantigiana route, completed with castles, medieval villages and cypress lined narrow country roads. This is the land of Sangiovese and You will taste different expressions of this noble grape. The tour features the visit of the well-known Barricaia Antinori´s cellar where You will taste some of Antinori´s mythical wines. You will also savour incredible Brunello di Montalcino in some of the best regional wineries, such as the prestigious Biondi  Santi, the greatest of all Brunello producers and Fattoria dei Barbi. Then carry on to Montepulciano; of Etruscan origin, it is one of the most beautiful and steepest hill towns in Tuscany. You will visit top estates such as Valdpiatta and Avignonesi and enjoy a tasting of  Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.

The journey takes You from the cypress-covered hills of Montalcino into the beautiful and wild Maremma region. What makes the most southern tip of Tuscany unique is its variegated territory: sea, hills and mountain blend together and color its panoramas in natural works of art. The area is also known for its local rodeo shows featuring the famous Butteri (cowboys), Maremma’s answer to Buffalo Bill and his crew. After a short stop in one of the coastal towns, Castiglione della Pescaia, You will visit a notorious estate such as Tua Rita and taste some of their “super” wines. Next on this luxury Tuscany wine tour is the visit of two superb cellars such as Petra (designed by the famed Mario Botta) and Ornellaia in the castle crowned village of Bolgheri (one of the best wine estates in Italy). After Your wine “breakfast”, You will have an unforgettable lunch at Ombrone: this converted 13th century “Frantoio” (olive oil mill) is fabulous. You will enjoy an olive oil tasting before your Tuscan style lunch.

From the wild Maremma you will drive to Florence, where you will have time to explore the “Cradle of  the Renaissance” and its symbols.

End the journey by discovering the beauty of the vineyards of the Valpolicella, the hilly agricultural region located just outside the city of Verona; it is one of the most prestigious winemaking areas in the Veneto. Visit the historic Tenuta Serego Alighieri estates and taste the famous Amarone della Valpolicella.

Tour Location

CASTELLO DELLA CASTELLUCCIA

Castello della Castelluccia, was built between the 10th and 13th centuries by the noble Cancellieri family, descendants of the Orsinis, on the ruins of an ancient Roman villa. Through the centuries it has seen the rise and fall of the many noble families that have owned it. Today this same magic atmosphere, the romantic corners and the enchanting gardens await you, inviting you to dive into the past…

CHIANTI

Your chauffeur guide will pick You up and take You to the delicious Chianti Classico wine region, through the enchanting Chiantigiana route. This is the land of Sangiovese and you will taste different expressions of this noble grape. Visit of Barricaia Antinori´s cellar. The visit is conceived as a trip through the history of the family and the successive stages of the fermentation and aging of a wine. The tasting of several of the Antinori wines, naturally, is an essential part of the visit: a white wine produced at the Castello della Sala, the Bramito Umbria IGT (Typical Geographical Indication), and two red wines produced in the cellar, the Peppoli Chianti Classico and the Villa Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva.

MONTALCINO

You will taste incredible Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano wines! Your chauffeur guide will pick You up and take You first to Montalcino. This ancient village is best known for its elixir red Brunello di Montalcino wines, made with the Sangiovese Grosso grape varietal. Enjoy a VIP private visit to a Brunello producer such as the prestigious Biondi Santi. Second stop at Fattoria dei Barbi that produces 800,000 bottles annually, including 200,000 bottles of Brunello di Montalcino.

MONTEPULCIANO

Of Etruscan origin, Montepulciano is one of the most beautiful (and steepest) hill towns in Tuscany. The fortified hamlet was built along a narrow bridge made of natural tufa. Montepulciano is an absolute treat and of course a mythical name for wine lovers. Perfectly preserved and historic, there are darling enotecas (wine bars), gourmet shops and historic palaces, fabulous. The Vino Nobile wines of Montepulciano were the first to be given the ultimate quality level of DOCG certification. Which is why You are here! You will visit a top estate such as Valdpiatta or Avignonesi and enjoy a tasting of Vino Nobile wines. Enjoy free time on Your own in Montepulciano.

MAREMMA REGION

You will travel southwest, from Montalcino to the mythical Maremma Wine Region. The drive takes You from the cypress-covered hills of Montalcino into the beautiful and wild Maremma region. The Maremma is one of the most interesting areas of Tuscany, and curiously “undiscovered” by non-Italians. It is more famous locally for its glamorous beaches on the Tyrrhenian sea, and millionaire’s yachts in Porto Argentario. It is also, interestingly, famous for its cowboys. The ‘butteri’ (cowboys) notoriously beat Buffalo Bill in 1911 when he challenged them to a contest of breaking in the colts. Stop at Castiglione della Pescaia for a short visit. Enjoy the visit to the winery Tua Rita with tasting. Despite the differing degrees of complexity in the range, the sensory profiles of the various grapes and the varying natures of each vineyard plot, all Tua Rita wines share a distinctive style and a unique ability to communicate the characterful personality of Tuscany’s Colline Metallifere hill country. It is a personality that emerges in a palette of aromatics rendered unforgettable by iron-like nuances and in impressive, intensely savoury progression in the mouth. A full day is all about Super Tuscans! In the last 3 decades, there has been an explosion of tiny “garage” style wineries making some of the world’s best (and most expensive) wines. These days, the wines from Maremma can cost up to 500 dollars a bottle! You will enjoy a wonderful wine tasting day, taking in two superb cellars such as Petra (designed by the famed Mario Botta) and Ornellaia in the castle crowned village of Bolgheri (one of the best cellars in Italy). After your wine “breakfast”, you’ll have one of the best meals on the tour- an unforgettable lunch at our favorite restaurant in the region, Ombrone. This converted 13th century “Frantoio” (olive oil mill) is fabulous. Your hosts are extremely charming and You will enjoy an olive oil tasting before your Tuscan style lunch.

FLORENCE

Enjoy a relaxing drive to Florence, where You will have free time to explore the “Cradle of Renaissance”. Based on Etruscan-Roman origins, the city flourished in the Middle Ages as a free “comune” and was further refined by the Renaissance. You will be fascinated by its numerous monuments, churches, and buildings, as well as Santa Maria del Fiore, more commonly referred to as the Duomo.

VALPOLICELLA

Valpolicella is an extremely complex and fascinating area. The widest and the most involved in grape growing, is the area including the hills on the north side of Valpolicella, extending deep into the valleys and including the villages of Negrar, Marano, San Pietro in Carianoand Sant’Ambrogio. First stop at Tenuta Serego Alighieri Count Pieralvise, last descendent of Dante’s family, in the 70s established a collaboration between “Possessioni di Serego Alighieri”, the original label of the estate, and “Masi Agricola”, one of the biggest wine producers in Verona, and promoted the revival of local wines and cultural traditions. Serego Alighieri produces all main Valpolicella wines, especially an excellent Amarone that, after a two years aging in oak barrels, spends other four month in cherry wood barrels. Wine tasting. In the afternoon visit of  Allegrini estate. Visit of the cellar and wine tasting.
