A Wine Tour in Italy is one of the best ways to discover the true essence of the country. The proposed wine tour is spectacularly extensive and varied and You will also have the opportunity to taste the haute cuisine of Tuscany, Veneto and Lombardy region and to visit some attractive towns and villages.
Travel through the fairytale wine roads of Chianti, quintessential Tuscany, following the enchanting Chiantigiana route, completed with castles, medieval villages and cypress lined narrow country roads. This is the land of Sangiovese and You will taste different expressions of this noble grape. Begin by visiting the well-known Antinori´s Badia Passignano estate where You will taste some of Antinori´s mythical wines. The incredible Brunello di Montalcino is waiting for You in some of the best regional wineries, such as the prestigious Biondi Santi, the greatest of all Brunello producers and Fattoria dei Barbi. Then carry on to Montepulciano; of Etruscan origin, it is one of the most beautiful and steepest hill towns in Tuscany. You will visit top estates such as Valdipiatta and Avignonesi and enjoy a tasting of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.
The route takes You from the cypress-covered hills of Montalcino into the beautiful and wild Maremma region. What makes the most southern tip of Tuscany unique is its variegated territory: sea, hills and mountain blend together and color its panoramas in natural works of art. The area is also known for its local rodeo shows featuring the famous Butteri (cowboys), Maremma’s answer to Buffalo Bill and his crew. After a short stop in one of the coastal towns, Castiglione della Pescaia, You will first visit a notorious estate such as Tua Rita and taste some of their “super” wines. Next on this luxury Tuscany wine tour is the visit of two superb cellars such as Petra (designed by the famed Mario Botta) and Ornellaia in the castle crowned village of Bolgheri (one of the best wine estates in Italy). After Your wine “breakfast”, You will have an unforgettable lunch at Ombrone: this converted 13th century “Frantoio” (olive oil mill) is fabulous. You will enjoy an olive oil tasting before your Tuscan style lunch.
The wine itinerary goes through the beauty of the vineyards of the Valpolicella, the hilly agricultural region located just outside the city of Verona, which is one of the most prestigious winemaking areas in the Veneto. Explore Valpolicella by going wine tasting in the renowed Tenuta Serego Alighieri Count Pieralvise, which produces all main Valpolicellawines, especially an excellent Amarone, definitely worth tasting!
After visiting the small wine town of Soave, topped by a castle and surrounded by vineyards producing the famous Soave wine, the wine tasting road trip continues towards the area around Alba in the Piedmont region of northern Italy, which is a delightful area to visit, especially if You are into wines. Go wine tasting inside the Barolo Castle, a fascinating imposing building which housess the famous Barolo regional Enoteca and the innovative WiMu Wine Museum, dedicated to Barolo, one of the finest wines in the world.
From Alba You can head for the Langhe on lovely tours among vineyards and truly unique country villages, such us the Middleage town of Grinzane Cavour with its medieval castle, located in the province of Cuneo, in the Italian region Piedmont. Splendid example of fortress in the Langhe hills, the Grinzane Cavour Castle is the headquarter of the Enoteca Regionale Piemontese Cavour, the Etnographic Museum and the Langa Museum.
