Day 5: Ragusa - Syracuse - Catania

Day 6: Catania - Taormina - Catania

After breakfast visit of Taormina, one of the most wonderful Sicilian town with its Greek Theatre, the second largest in Sicily after the one in Syracuse. The landscape offers enchanting sights of the Ionian Sea and the Etna Volcano. Afternoon at leisure in Catania.

Day 7: Otional Exursion and Departure

Today you can relax in Catania and go for shopping. Otherwise, if you have enough time at disposal, you can do a guided excursion to Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe and one of the most important of the Earth. In the late afternoon transfer to Catania Airport. End of services.

PALERMO

Palermo was one of the richest and most important town of Arab rule lasted for over two centuries. Wonderful palaces, mosques, minarets, gardens and fountains were built.  Unfortunately the major monuments of Arab period disappeared with the arrival of the Normans in the middle of  the 11th century. They changed the Arab buildings without missing their magnificence, so maintaining ornaments and mosaics in Arab style.  

MONREALE

In the town of Monreale art and Arab-Norman architecture reached their peak with buildings elected UNESCO World Heritage sites. Here are 6.000 smq of golden mosaics with scenes of the New and Old Testaments.

ERICE

Erice has the shape of a perfect equilateral triangle, on the summit of an isolated mountain at 750m above sea level. From here, on clear days, you can see the Etna Volcano on the horizon. Narrow and  winding streets, medieval arches, decorated courtyards and small shops  give a particular charm to this town.

SELINUNTE

Situated on a promontory overlooking the sea, Selinunte  was an ancient Greek town, destroyed by the Carthaginians,  today is world known because of  its archaeological site consisting of five temples built around an acropolis. 

VALLEY OF THE TEMPLES

The Valley of the Temples is an archaeological area of about 1300 hectares with the ruins of the ancient city of Akragas, founded around 582 b.C. It was one of the most important Greek colonies in Sicily. Today is characterized by the exceptional state of preservation and is a UNESCO World Heritage site enchanting tourists from all over the world.

RAGUSA

Ragusa has a wonderful ancient quartier area called Ibla, rich of charm and history. The town was influenced by Greek, Roman, Arab and Norman styles and today enthrall the tourists with over than fifty churches and palaces in Baroque style.

SYRACUSE

The old center of Syracuse is named Ortigia and is characterized by narrow streets, the Baroque Cathedral built over an ancient Greek temple and its panorama overlooking the sea. Don’t miss to see the Maniace Castle built by Federico II.

CATANIA

Catania is one of the most beautiful Baroque style towns in the world but it has buildings of its previous past, such as the Roman Amphitheatre and the Norman Ursino Castle where Federico II lived. 

TAORMINA

Taormina lies on a natural terrace overlooking the Ionian sea. Built by the Greeks in the 3rd century b.C. and then rebuilt and expanded by the Romans. Today it offers symbols of its great history and is one of the most visited places in the world, loved by visitors thanks to its spectacular views and its Greek Theatre.  

ETNA VOLCANO

Optional off road excursion to Etna Volcano. Discover craters, caves and dirt trails in the heart of Etna forests. See lava flows, breathtaking craters and place such as the “Valle del Bove”, a wide basin on the eastern slope of Etna.  This excursion is by 4×4 vehicles and with professional guides.
